“Raildown” by William Omurcada (b. 1947), 1984 hand-pulled serigraph on paper, signed & numbered 198/400, 26×40 inches
Vintage William Omurcada “Raildown” serigraph – dynamic sailing scene with bold sail geometry and layered ocean tones, hand-pulled limited edition print signed and numbered 198/400, a rare figurative-marine work within Omurcada’s landscape-driven oeuvre.
Artwork Description
“Raildown” captures a dramatic moment at sea, depicting a racing sailboat heeled sharply as its crew works in unison against wind and water. Omurcada reduces the vessel and figures to crisp, graphic forms, contrasting the angular geometry of the sail with the rhythmic, textured surface of the ocean below. Layered serigraphic color fields create movement across the water, while the softly graduated sky provides atmospheric balance and visual calm. The composition emphasizes tension, momentum, and teamwork, translating physical motion into a refined, modernist print language. Printed on archival paper, the sheet measures approximately 26 × 40 inches. The lower margin bears the artist’s hand-written title “Raildown,” signature, date, and edition number 198/400 in pencil, confirming authenticity and limited-edition status. This work stands apart within Omurcada’s body of work for its nautical subject matter, yet remains consistent with his disciplined layering, painterly restraint, and structural clarity.
