“Sea Breeze,” Susana Fabiani (Argentine), c.1970s hand-pulled lithograph, 26×22 in, signed & numbered 114/200, romantic realist coastal scene.

“Sea Breeze” by Susana Fabiani is a hand-drawn, limited-edition lithograph depicting a serene mother-and-child moment along a pastel shoreline. Signed and numbered 114/200, this vintage print—sourced from the retired Mitch Morse Gallery in New York—features Fabiani’s signature romantic realism, luminous tones, and soft emotional resonance. Excellent frame-ready condition and highly collectible.

Artwork Description

This 114/200 edition of Sea Breeze presents one of Susana Fabiani’s most emotionally compelling compositions. A mother reclines on a sandy beach, her daughter nestled lovingly at her side; together, they form a peaceful vignette of tenderness and familial intimacy. The scene unfolds along a pale shoreline beneath a sky suffused with pastel pinks, lavenders, and soft greys—Fabiani’s hallmark palette for conveying serenity and reflective quiet.

The mother’s flowing mint-green dress, accented with warm ochre and terracotta tones, demonstrates Fabiani’s refined sense of fabric movement and tonal layering. The child’s rosy garments create a gentle chromatic balance within the composition. Beside them, a woven basket and scattered apples introduce symbolic elements of nourishment, simplicity, and leisure.

Fabiani’s technical skill in lithography is evident in her velvety shading, precise linework, and subtle gradients that evoke watercolor softness. The expansive beach and drifting clouds serve as both a setting and an emotional atmosphere, reinforcing themes of protection, calm, and contemplative connection.

Signed and numbered 114/200, this piece represents Fabiani’s primary edition of the work and holds strong collector appeal due to its condition, subject matter, and established provenance.

Artist Biography

Susana Fabiani was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she received formal training at the National School of Fine Arts, the School of Ceramics, and the National Academy of Theatre, specializing in stage and costume design. Her theatrical training profoundly shaped her visual approach, influencing her mastery of gesture, drapery, atmospheric lighting, and emotional storytelling.

Fabiani’s artistic development was enriched by broad international study. In 1968, she traveled to France, Italy, and Holland, researching European contemporary painters and engaging with the avant-garde Latin American artistic community in Paris. In 1969, she traveled to Mexico and Peru, conducting research on Pre-Columbian art and teaching in Mérida, Mexico. These travels infused her work with symbolic sensitivity, soft tonal harmony, and cultural depth.

Her lithographs often explore themes of motherhood, reflection, and serene domestic or natural spaces. She remains admired for her ability to merge technical refinement with poetic, narrative sensitivity.
