$625.00

SUN, FIRE, LEAVES OF A DREAM by Sylvie Germain (Covey) is a breathtaking etching and aquatint that beautifully captures the essence of cosmic wonder and earthly beauty, making it a true gem rescued from the slumbering stock of a NYC gallery. This exceptional piece, numbered 70/80 and signed by the artist herself, measures an impressive 30x22 inches and was crafted in the year 1980. It reflects Covey's multifaceted journey—from her rigorous graphic arts education in the enchanting city of Paris to her artistic evolution profoundly influenced by the vibrant culture of Bali and the serene, meditative qualities of Japan's Sumi-e techniques. This captivating work embodies her ongoing exploration of mythology and spirituality, harmonizing the powerful forces of sun and fire with the delicate rustle of dream leaves that whisper of possibilities. Covey's extraordinary prowess in etching and aquatint shines through in the richly multilayered imagery, inviting viewers into a captivating realm where the mundane beautifully meets the ethereal. As she melds new teachings from esteemed mentors with her own introspective ventures, this artwork stands not only as a testament to her remarkable artistic growth but also as a bridge connecting the past to the present—a timeless treasure waiting to ignite imaginations anew and inspire contemplation.

While at Hunter College, she immersed herself in photography under the guidance of Mark Feldstein and honed her printmaking skills at the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop, where fresh perspectives reshaped her artistic process. Her artistic journey took her beyond borders, studying Balinese art in Indonesia and Sumi-e painting in Japan, each culture adding layers of depth to her work. Upon her return, she joined Michael Ponce de Leon's printmaking class at the Art Students League, serving as his monitor from 1978 to 1984, while also learning alongside fellow artist Seong Moy, enriching her craft with collaborative spirit and diverse techniques.
